"It's incredible how the human body is. That it could do so much. That it can go beyond the everydayness of life; That it can be extraordinary and powerful, and harbor a spirit of hope and pure will."
-Lynne Cox -Swimming to Antarctica
Lynne Cox was born in 1957 and her home town is Boston, Massachusetts. Lynne has always had a passion for swimming. She is a long distance swimmer which means she swims longer distances than sprinters who swim shorter swims. She swam: the Catalina Channel, the English Channel, the Cook Strait in New Zealand, the Straits of Magellan, Cape of Good Hope, the Little Diomede, the Big Diomede, and part of the Soviet Union. Lynne Cox's dream was to swim the Antarctic Region. Lynne managed to accomplish this with no flotation, her food and drinkable liquids had to be thrown to her because she would be disqualified. Only her crew and some family and friends were watching her and giving her support from the boat that was next to her when she swam. Lynne Cox set the goal for this swim when she was a little girl. Lynne has always loved swimming and loved long distance swimming. Lynne Cox has never stopped swimming but she doesn't do it competitively anymore. Lynne is not a person who gives up. She is always trying to do her best while doing what she loves... swimming. Lynne Cox has a lovable personality and is always positive. Anyone who reads her book will be inspired by Lynne Cox.
